EXTERIOR CLEANING OF HIGH RISE BUILDINGS JUST GOT EASIER

1-April 2016

Brea, CA—Helicopter buckets (helibuckets), also known as bambi buckets, are not only used to deliver water to aid in aerial firefighting anymore but are now used for exterior cleaning of high-rise buildings. Contract Services Group, Inc. (CSG) has jumped on this new use of technology and has outfitted a helicopter loaded with deionized water in its Bambi bucket. Why helicopter bucketdeionized water? The use of deionized water helps reduce the speed of buildup, as there are no minerals in the water due to the purification process. These minerals usually adhere to the glass and attract debris from the environment.

Bambi buckets hold anywhere from 72-2,600 gallons of water. The size and elevation of the high-rise building will determine which size bucket the cleaning crew will use.

It was recently discovered that using these helibuckets are the most efficient and fastest way to clean the building’s exterior and windows. The pressure released when the water is dropped onto the building has enough power to clean the windows in one quick motion, never leaving streaks.

Helibuckets usually contain fire retardant foam used to cool the fuel of the flames. However, when used in exterior cleaning, this foam is replaced with a cleaning agent to help wash away buildup from the building and deliver a protective coat to all glass material. The protective coat helps prevent damage to the windows and increases the amount of time between cleanings; saving both time and resources for the owners of the buildings.

To start saving and keeping up with the trends, hire CSG for all your exterior cleaning needs.

FACT OR FIB: WINDOW WASHING DETRIMENTAL DURING A DROUGHT?

28-August-2015

pic 018Brea, CA— Many businesses question if window washing their commercial building is a necessity, especially when facing a major drought. With California and many other states passing new laws on mandatory water reduction by 25% and the California State Water Resources Control Board stating that outdoor water use accounts for almost 80% of use, the question seems easy to answer; “Save money and water by refraining from window washing the building this year.” However, the answer is not so simple.

Contract Services Group, Inc. (CSG) is Green Clean certified and holds to the most recent standards, equipment, products and practices. Because of such actions, minimal water use is actually required in order to wash the windows of a building. With over 40 years in the Window Washing Services Industry, CSG has seen the downfall effects of what happens to glass when windows are not washed on a regular basis.

Glass is a very delicate, porous surface that can develop build up of dirt or other airborne pollutants and requires periodic cleaning and upkeep. Because windows are constantly exposed to outside elements such as heat from the sun, humidity, wind and rain, the dirt/pollutant buildup can penetrate through the glass causing permanent damage and staining. Glass attracts contamination quite regularly and can cost a business up to hundreds of thousands of dollars for window replacement. Degradation of glass will affect the value of the property. Avoid expensive costs while still conserving water and wash your windows thoroughly on a regular basis.

The question remains, fact or fib? FIB. Window washing is not detrimental during a drought.

Workplace Health and Safety – Do the Right Thing

CSG Published Workplace Health and Safety Training to promote workers’ rights.

Read Here – Workplace Health and Safety Training

Training programs are a critical aspect of ensuring safe and healthful workplaces based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations standards.

Workers’ Rights advocates remind employers to consider the human cost at stake without effective training for workplace health and safety. OSHA is committed to ensuring “workers return to their families in the same condition they began their day.” OSHA Workers’ Rights standards help to ensure a safe workplace.

Federal OSHA provides these rights:

  • Ask OSHA to inspect their workplace,
  • Use their rights under the law without retaliation and discrimination,
  • Receive information and training about hazards, methods to prevent harm, and the OSHA standards that apply to their workplace,
  • Get copies of test results done to find hazards in the workplace,
  • Review records of work-related injuries and illnesses,
  • Get copies of their own medical records.

Compare Competent, Qualified & Designated

Compare Competent, Qualified & Designated

OSHA construction standards require a competent person onsite as a legal obligation. But OSHA does not have a specific standard regarding a competent person.

As building owners are responsible to develop written agreements regarding safety plans when working with contract crews, knowing the level of expertise of safety committee team protects your business.

A competent person is “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them,” according to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.32(f).

A qualified person is “one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter, the work, or the project,” according to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.32(m).

A designated person only means that the employer’s representative was “selected or assigned by the employer as being qualified to perform specific duties” according to 1926 Subpart L. So here the OSHA standards ask employer to take responsibility to designate certain employees to job assignments based on level of competence or qualifications.

OSHA standards explicitly requiring employers to provide workplace health and safety training to all employees. This training may constitute competency but not necessarily qualifications if there is no certifications. Conversely, if a workers is certified with no experience, there’s room to question the workers competency for a specific job assignment.

To be sure your business is protected and learn about the level of competence and qualifications of your contractor’s safety committee team.

Window Cleaning for your exterior building can improve your company image as a professional sustainable business in your community. Effective building maintenance programs protects your assets by preserving windows and exterior surfaces from staining build-up and environmental damage. Commercial buildings endure various environmental conditions that can lead to window glass and exterior staining.

Buildings are exposed to multiple elements resulting in staining on its surfaces. The length of time that staining factors are left unchecked can create additional factors in removing stains.

  • Some window cleaning detergents attract dust and dirt causing buildup of surfactants.
  • High mineral content of water erosion from adjacent concrete or precast surfaces stains glass, seals and exterior surfaces.
  • Overspray from careless waterproofing and painting projects can stain surrounding surfaces.
  • Leaching of deteriorating caulking or coatings, rusting metals or environmental pollution including acid rain all cause staining.
