CSGCARES Operation Giveback supports the Children’s Center in Orange County

CSGCARES Operation Giveback celebrates 40-years of Facility Services Excellence by participating in favorite charitable projects to acknowledge support from our community that makes giving possible.

For December 2013, CSGCARES Operation Giveback participated in the Child Guidance Center’s 31st Annual Holiday Tree Fantasy Event.

The event raised over $100,000 from partnership sponsors for expanding critical Veteran & Military Children’s Treatment Programs in Orange County.

Child Guidance Center provides the highest level of comprehensive, therapeutic treatment services to serve over 1200 children and families each week in Orange County and Southern California.

“CSG is honored to continue sponsoring this holiday tradition to support the programs at Child Guidance Center,” said John Pearce, CEO for Contract Services Group, Inc.

“We are excited to celebrate our 40-year Anniversary by giving back to the community we serve,” said Casey Pearce, President of Contract Services Group, Inc.

CSGCARES Operation Giveback launched last month with the Second Harvest Food Drive and will continue throughout 2014.

Training for new GHS with OSHA

CSG started the GHS training of janitorial staff in September for compliance with OSHA’s Dec. 1, 2013 deadline.  OSHA3491QuickCardPictogram_Page_1

OSHA required that companies storing, using or handling chemicals must train workers to understand the new data sheets and labels of the Hazard Communication Global Harmonized System (GHS). As with all OSHA Training Standards employers are required to provide training in an understandable language and method.

While OSHA has established a generous changeover period, OSHA hopes that as manufacturers change their labels, workers will already be trained.

Be sure that OSHA will be verifying compliance, but they are still offering the GHS Training Resources available at the OSHA Training Service’s website (

Upcoming Deadlines:

  • June 1, 2015: Chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors and employers must comply with all other requirements of the revised standard.
  • Dec. 1, 2015: Distributors may not ship containers unless they contain approved labels.
  • June 1, 2016: Employers must update workplace labeling and their hazard communication programs as necessary, including additional employee training for newly identified chemical hazards.

Winter Care Plan for your Carpet Cleaning

DSC_0022CSG, a CIMS certified cleaning contractor, can assist you with building a Winter Care Plan for your carpets and flooring. We offer carpet care as part of our comprehensive janitorial programs.

By establishing a Winter Care Plan for carpets and other flooring, you can start improving carpet care and protecting carpets longer.

ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) brings focus to the value of clean by standardizing cleaning best practices that save money. On ISSA’s Cleaning Applications, Mark Cuddy explains, “some facilities have their carpets cleaned every few months on a set schedule―whether they need it or not―but most facilities seem to clean their carpets only when they look soiled.” Read more here.

Consider the following strategies for establishing a Winter Care Plan:

  • Decide on a plan.
  • Reevaluate the benefits of matting.
  • Increase outdoor cleaning frequencies.
  • Increase vacuuming frequencies.
  • Pay attention to special vacuuming needs.
  • Consider using hot-water extraction.
